Nobody touches Lorna. Nobody looks at her like Marco is looking at her now- like she’s beautiful and worthwhile and worthy of love and affection. She’s been trapped in a broken marriage for twenty years with no words of comfort or love, working in the factory with no encouragement from the foreman and nothing but obedience from the people working under her, doing her duty by her family and her country with nothing for herself.
And the Marco- Marco happens, and Marco looks at her like she’s made of gold and beautiful and worth risking something for. Like god, just look at her face here- leaning into his hand like she hasn’t been able to lean on anything in years, like just feeling someone touch her like this is something she’s been starved for in ways she didn’t even realize. It’s wrong. She still has all these duties. But just once, she lets herself break down and do something that makes her happy, because she just can’t bear up under the weight anymore without help.
